Four Weeks out

Four weeks from today I will be dipping my back tire into the Atlantic Ocean! I’ll be starting an eight week journey that will take me all the way across this beautiful country on my bicycle. I wish I had another month to plan, but after that month I would just hope for yet another month. As Tolkien put it, “The World Is Not In Your Books And Maps, It Is Out There”. I also recall a quote that I can’t find about adventure starting after you have taken the first step or in this case the first pedal. Good news is, my route is planned all the way to California and most of my lodging and interviews are planned all the way out to Oklahoma City. If you know of any places where I could find shelter west of Oklahoma City, it would be appreciated as the country does get a little more isolated.

Training has gone fairly well. I have gotten in a few long distance bike rides along with just some daily local miles. I would love some more time on the bike, but it’s amazing to me how well our bodies adapt to things we put them through. I am working through meal planning, and dieting as well, for this trip since on my last trip I did not have to worry about type 2 diabetes. I really hope that a lot of you will be able to follow along on this journey this summer. Continued prayers for safety and finishing up the planning are much appreciated. I am so excited to share all the exciting stories that are about to happen in the next few months. Bike on…
